Retour à la cerisaie

Alexandre Doublet

Retour à la cerisaie

Inspired by Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, Alexander Doublet writes the story of a family reunion in its soon-to-be-sold estate. The childhood home, the site of the final reunion, reveals the secret part of each family member... A play attuned to the voices inside, to be experienced through headphones.

Inspired by Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, Alexander Doublet writes the story of a family reunion in its soon-to-be-sold estate. The childhood home, the site of the final reunion, reveals the secret part of each family member, that which the hieroglyphics of time have inscribed upon the soul... A play attuned to the voices inside, to be experienced through headphones.

After a long absence, Catherine returns to her childhood home. Her brother and his two daughters have asked her to come, as the family home is going to be sold. The money will be used to pay off their late parents' debts and for the eldest daughter, Esther, to take over the disco where she works as a waitress. Before Catherine signs the deed of sale, Lozen, her childhood friend, proposes to avoid the inevitable, without success.

Memories relived during this last hour together there, confrontation with the heritage of past generations, social violence that leads to the abandonment of the ones we love the most, farewell to a bygone time... What do we look at when we leave a childhood memory? What do the past generations leave us to project into the future? Who abandons whom?

In a house where only the bones remain, which is already only a dream, the characters seem to wander around, passing each other without seeing each other or scrutinising each other. They finally speak out to tell the truth, that raw, uninterrupted, legitimate truth, a truth that is only possible through love of the other. The spectators hear their voices, transmitted via headphones. Listen to a world that is crumbling.

Director

Alexandre Doublet

Rien!
