A melancholic and flashy intergalactic space opera by Philippe Quesne. Suspended in mid-air, a curious meteorite-shuttle carries a small group of humans as they make their way through the immensity of space: humanity is now gravitational.
Full of neon yellow melancholy and superb aesthetics, Cosmic Drama is a Robinson Crusoe-esque adventure on the edges of humanity, filled with humour, malice and tenderness.
Could this kind of space ark preserve what remains of nature, art and human civilisation? Perhaps.
In his creative process, the visual artist and director Philippe Quesne begins by defining a specific stage space, a scenography, which then becomes the playing space. His plays have been set, for example, on a deserted island (Crash Park, 2018), in a mole’s den (La Nuit des taupes, 2016), in snowy forests (La Mélancolie des dragons, 2008) or in a cultural centre located in a swamp (Swamp Club, 2013). Cosmic Drama is set in a kind of meteorite-spacecraft. In this epic yet intimate space – the ideal setting for his theatre – Philippe Quesne follows the journey of a few survivors: a small group of sometimes strange, but always touching characters...
With a laconic sense of humour and a sharp insight into small human communities, he observes with tenderness the fragility of humanity and its ambivalent relationship with nature. Machinery, flights, special effects and video projections bring to life this melancholic science-fiction fable, between reverie and utopia.

Director
