Massimo Furlan and Claire de Ribaupierre interview people who have a special relationship with the undomesticated world: wildlife wardens, game wardens, fishermen, local hunters, ecological theorists and philosophers.
The testimonies on stage show the breadth of their knowledge and their ties to the animal kingdom. Rivers and forests are revealed as environments rich in interrelationships, condensing some of the paradoxes of our time.
As with many of their creations, the director and playwright set out to meet witnesses with specific practices or histories. This time, they are interested in the rivers and forests around Lausanne, as ecosystems and environments where animals and humans cohabit. By meeting fishing and hunting specialists and enthusiasts, they discover keen observers of these places and the animals, with whom they share relationships rooted in knowledge and attention.
The artists ask questions about their habits and equipment, listen to their stories, their anecdotes and their experiences. Their links to the natural world prove to be at the heart of most of the issues linked to our relationship with animals and nature: their gestures and practices condense traditions and contemporary questions, necessary needs (population regulation, food for humans...) and Sunday hobbies, intimate understandings of animals in their environments and questions about human intervention on natural ecosystems.
On stage, two of them talk about their practices and the investigations conducted by the artists. The show exposes the often paradoxical diversity of our emotions and our links with nature.
This is the second part of what the artists call The Trilogy of Connections, which began with Dans la Forêt, a night-time walk in the Jorat woods created for Vidy in 2020, and which will continue with a piece on the world of farming.

Artist and playwright
